Traditional antioxidant supplements such as vitamins A,
C and E are recognized as consumable antioxidants. They
offer one-on-one protection against the invasive behavior
of naturally occurring free radicals. A single molecule
of antioxidants has the ability to neutralize or eliminate
one solitary free radical. Because the energy of the molecule
is exhausted, it lacks the power to destroy other free radicals.
Medical scientists counter the effectiveness of conventional
antioxidant supplements. Very little evidence supports their
ability to reduce oxidative stress or aging. Additionally,
researchers conclude the amounts of antioxidants needed
for the body to ward-off oxidative stress would exceed the
body's digestive system’s capacity. Not to mention,
the vast majority of antioxidants lack absorption ability
into the system. As a result, consumable antioxidants are
unable to penetrate certain cell membranes where they are
needed. |
